The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

PUDDING CREEK TRESTLE

Something that keeps coming up, and is always on my mind, as a group, we are aging out.  It's just a natural thing.  But I hate to see that happen.  One of the problems is, if a young person does show up, it's not likely that they'll return if there is nobody near their age or ability.  I think the only way to reverse this trend, is that if you're a young person reading this blog on the internet, please do come, and try to bring a couple of friends with you.  We will welcome you and you will enjoy running or walking safely in some beautiful places.  With a new and younger "core group" the Fog Dodgers could grow and continue many more years.

Under a mostly cloudy sky and a temperature of 41 degrees, we ran and walked this morning, beginning at Pudding Creek on the MacKerricher Haul Road.

Present today: Gay, Mark, Fran, Jean, Charlene, Toni, Joe, Diana, Jeff, Kim, Doug, Bob, Susan, Bruce, John, Barbara, Nancy and Tom (18).

Thanks John, for all of today's photos.

WARD AVENUE

It was a beautiful morning in Cleone.  We walked and, at least a couple of us, ran, on the MacKerricher Haul Road.  Bob ran the beach.  It was a little cool, something like 42 degrees, at the beginning, but by the time we finished, it was great!  John's picture below shows how clear the sky was.

BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD

We were at Big River this morning.  It was a typical morning there, windy and cool.  We knew though, that as soon as we get a half mile up the road, it will be great.  It was!

Lots of pretty sunrises and sunsets lately and there are signs that there will be another season before long.  John has again supplied us with some very pretty photos, thanks John!

BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD

"Had to hold the herd back this morning.  When it's cold and windy, people want to get moving early, and that's how it was this morning, the group wanted to start two minutes early!  How hard can it be, to remember our only rule?  We start at 8:00, exactly!"

I copied and pasted the above quote from the Dec. 5 blog entry.  I didn't think it had been that long ago.  Again this morning, it was impossible to hold everyone back!  At the mouth of Big River in the morning, you can bet it will be windy.  If it's windy and about 40 degrees, nobody wants to stand and chat.  I'm smiling, folks, I think it's funny that all of you scofflaws can't adhere to the only Fog Dodger rule!

Several people commented this morning, that it was nice to be back at Big River.  So, by popular demand (?), we'll do it again next Sunday.  The weather is supposed to be pretty nice all week, so it should work out well.

Besides enjoying being a photographer, John also enjoys sculpting, and gardening, and cooking, and.........so many things!  His sculpture above is currently on display at the Art Center in Mendocino.

PUDDING CREEK TRESTLE

It was a beautiful and very cold morning at the Pudding Creek Trestle.   When it's cold or windy, it's hard to keep the Fog Dodgers from jumping the gun, today was no exception.

I think it was about 35 degrees, the light breeze made it feel colder.  A nice sized group was there to start the new year off right.

Present today: Susan, Bruce, Gay, Mark, Kim, Doug, Deb, Sam, Jean, Fran, Charlene, Bob, John, Barbara, Joe, Shari, Nancy and Tom (18).

Thank you, John, for all of today's photos.

All photos today kindly supplied by John, thanks John!

We're supposed to get a few more days of rain this week but I think that by next Sunday, Big River Logging Road should be okay to run or walk on.  We need to use it often while the weather is cool and the mosquitoes are sleeping.
