The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

Noyo Headlands Trail - South

Just after the Solstice - another lovely Sunday morning to run.  Arrived at the South Trail - seemed a little late.  The Abalone divers beat us there - but there were still plenty of parking spots - thank goodness.  Low Tide this morning was (-2.0) ft - beautiful along the shore.  The south trail allows for several glimpses of the exposed shoreline.  We are so fortunate to live near such beautiful scenery!  My apology to Gunter to not having the correct font formatting.....

We miss you Tom & Nancy!  Safe Travels Home!

Ward Avenue - Sunday June 18 - Happy Father's Day!

58 degrees and a slight haze in the air this morning.  It was a small group - 3 walkers, 3 runners.  Fran, Joe, Charlene, Ron, Bob C.  & Jan

It was a beautiful morning, whether walking or running.  I headed south to the point then headed back north on the black sand beach.  Went about 1/4 mile on the sand, then climbed back up to the paved trail.  Lots of tourist traffic - Folks out enjoying the Father's Day Weekend!

No photos today - This is my first time posting - so, my apology for the sparse offering.  It will get Better!

Safe travels to all!

Today was Ward Avenue.

NOYO HEADLANDS TRAIL - NORTH

Glass Beach Headlands
Although the morning started out pretty chilly, 44 degrees at my house, it was a beautiful 56 when we started our walk.  The tide was low and the water was a brilliant deep blue.  Some of us headed north toward the trestle and some went south to Soldier Bay.  This walk gives us lots of options for walking or running. By the time we got back, it was shorts and tee shirt time.

We were joined this morning by Jan, Ron, Charlene, Neil, Nancy B., Rick, Nancy T. Roger, Shari, Susan Bruce and Fran.  9 of us had breakfast at David’s Deli.  Thank Nancy B. for the list of names.  If it been left just to me, this paragraph would be missing.

I can't remember if Tom and Nancy are running the 5K or 10K at the National Senior Games in Birmingham Alabama.  The 10k was yesterday, but I didn't see either in the results.  So assuming they're in the 5k, the race is tomorrow and the results can be found here - best of luck guys.  And oh Tom, any chance you could blog while you're out of town?

As always, thanks to John for most of the photos.

CASPAR LOGGING ROAD

“The Last Dipody”

(Courtesy Bob Cimmiyotti)

Have you heard about the Fog Dodgers today?
Amassing at the trailhead then hustling away
Their voices spewing fun and laughter
near the haunts of Siegfried Caspar.
There were nine in number, one was late,
the others got started at exactly eight.
Some went south and some went east
trying to choose the hill of least.
Up then down or down then up
making that choice can be tough.
The weather was perfect, sunny and warm
enhanced by wild iris in radiant form.
John was there with camera new as was Sherry,
Peter, Joe, Susan, Bruce, Bob and Otis too,
and another young lady with name forgotten,
others were absent, that are there quite often.
Such good fun to walk and jog
once again to dodge the fog.

For those that haven't heard of a "dipody", dictionary.com defines it as:
"a group of two feet in English poetry, in which one of the two accented syllables bears primary stress and the other bears secondary stress, used as a prosodic measurement in iambic, trochaic, and anapestic verse"
Did that help!
