The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

Fern Canyon, Van Damme State Park

Thank you, John, for today's photo from Little River.

It was a brisk, 38 degrees at our 8:00 a.m. start. Luckily, the "normal" morning breeze wasn't present at Van Damme, so it was good for running and walking. It was a pleasure to welcome a new local runner and we hope that Lindsey will return. Also present were: Orah, Steve, Jan, Marc, Bob, Tanya, John, Elaine, Nancy T., Roger, Megan, Rick, Fran (?), Nancy and Tom (16).

NEXT SUNDAY, March 4th @ 8:00 A.M.: JACKSON STATE FOREST ROAD 450, (see "Our Routes" above).

EVERY TUESDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK, beginning on Point Cabrillo Drive, 1/10 of a mile north of its south end.

EVERY THURSDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: VAN DAMME STATE PARK, beginning at the beach.

CASPAR LOGGING ROAD

Poor captive goose by J. Loomis

and a Flowering Plum, to show that it's almost Spring!

I'm having trouble posting photos in the right spots but you get the idea.

It was calm, overcast and about 41 degrees this morning, as we started our run or walk on the Caspar Logging Road. Really good weather for running, a bit nippy when walking. Jackson State Forest has spread more of the used asphalt grindings, going further up Road 500 from where they left off last year. This makes the surface absolutely perfect, as far as it goes. Hopefully, they'll be able to extend it even further before stopping this year.

Present this morning were: Toni, Nancy B., Rick, Megan, Rick S., Cindy, Jim, Gay, Mark, Jan, Marc, Fran, Charlene, John, Laurie, Bob, Johnny and Tom (18). I hope I didn't miss someone.

Afterwards, nine of us were joined by Brad for a really nice David's Restaurant breakfast.

We're supposed to have really nice weather all week long and I think the Fern Canyon Trail at Van Damme will be really nice, so,

NEXT SUNDAY, 2/26/12 @ 8:00 A.M.: VAN DAMME STATE PARK, see "Our Routes" above.

MacKerricher Haul Road

This morning, we ran and walked the MacKerricher Haul Road. It was a pretty morning, though a bit cool at 40 degrees with an onshore breeze to give it a little more chill.

Photos thanks to John

Nice to see San Diego Larry here again, someone to keep Johnny from slacking off. Also present: Johnny, Laurie, Rick,Megan, Nancy B., Rick B., Nancy T., Roger, Jan, Marc, Neil, John, Bob, Randy, Gay, Mark, Nancy and Tom (19).

NEXT SUNDAY, 2/19/12 @ 8:00 A.M.: CASPAR LOGGING ROAD (see "Our Routes" above). If you want an e-mail reminder, send me your e-mail address and I'll send you an invite to join the Yahoo Fog Dodgers Group, which sends out an email reminder.

Big River Logging Road

The theme for this morning's run/walk was Groundhog Day and so we did exactly what we did last week.

This photo was stolen from the internet but the nice photo below of Mendocino's Masonic Temple (formerly) is from John, thanks.
By the way, Punxsatahney Phil did see his shadow this week, 6 more weeks of winter.

Weather seemed about the same, a very cold and breezy start (it was 36 at my house when we left and today's vehicle didn't have a thermometer). Everyone really wanted to start early, to get out of the wind. Up the road a half mile it became quite decent. I could only think of Ron, over in Hawaii, about to wake up and run in nice warm 5K race.

John got this Mendocino photograph for us this morning, thanks John.

We had a new person this morning, Tom. I'm going to have to give him a sur-initial when I learn it. Others present: Jan, Marc, Geri, Cheryl, Neil, Bob, John, Bob, Nancy T., Roger, Peter, Fran, Nancy and Tom (15).

NEXT SUNDAY, Feb. 12th @ 8:00 A.M.: MacKerricher Haul Road. See "Our Routes" above.
