The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

CASPAR LOGGING ROADS

I still call it "Caspar Logging Roads" because of the options we have there.  Ends up though, we all seem to prefer walking or running with others, rather than alone, and therefore we usually end up as a group and taking the "easy" way, heading up and back on Jackson State Forest Road 500.  It's a challenging road to run but fairly easy to walk.  It's all uphill going out and downhill coming back.  It's a road that works well for everyone!

Thank you, John L.,  for all of today's photos.  Without John's photo efforts, I don't think we'd have a blog.

This is going to be difficult and if you were there today and I don't mention it, I was distracted and not paying attention, my apology.   Nancy and Roger had their family present; Jakki, Tim, Keith, Rachel and Julie, all wonderful people.  Also present:  Fran, Sue,  Cheryl N., Neil, Shari, Peter, Toni, Joe, Nancy B., Rick, Greg, Keith, Charlene, Ron, Bob, Cindy, John, Nancy and Tom (26).  Certainly, I missed somebody.

Now, if I could slide the "Tall Goose" photo below from John up into this space, it would look a lot better.  I can't though.  It's that problem I've mentioned before, about Blogger not allowing the arrangement of things on the page as one would like.

Thanks again,  John, for all photos!

Upcoming venues:

March 3rd, Coastal Trail South
March 10th, Big River
March 17th, Pomo Bluffs Park
March 24th, Van Damme State Park

As always, let me know if there's one of our venues that you're very fond of or want to do on a specific date.

NEXT SUNDAY, March 3rd @ 8:00 A.M.: COASTAL TRAIL - SOUTH (that would be the one across from Taco Bell)

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN @ 7:00 A.M.: BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD on Tuesday and Mendocino/Heeser Drive on Thursday.

PUDDING CREEK TRESTLE

It was (is) a beautiful morning, albeit a little chilly.  It was 35 degrees at the Pudding Creek Trestle when we began our run or walk.  Had to be a little careful to not slip on the icy trestle.  No wind this morning though, so we could enjoy the beautiful ocean view with large breaking waves.

Besides being a beautiful morning, it was bittersweet.  Present along with Nancy and Roger were family:  Jakki, Keith, Rachel and Tim.  Also present today:  Sarah and Michael, back for their second visit, Nancy B., Rick, Gay, Mark,  Cindy, Shari, Peter, Toni, Joe, Catherine, Cheryl, Neil, Charlene, Ron, John, Bob, Nancy and Tom (26).  I hope that I got that right.

Because "Blogger" won''t allow me to arrange photos on the page as I would like, and because John sends me many nice photos, I'm just going to kind of throw in several related photos taken near our run/walk today.  Thanks to John for his consistent and diligent photography.

These two hawk photos go together.  They two were taken near Pudding Creek.  Ron will know what kind of hawk this is.

Walking and running on the heels of the storm with delight. Pomo Bluffs Park.

Today the Fog Dodgers awoke to a rare visual treat of a thin blanket of snow covering the rooftops and everything below. The beauty of it all was further enhanced by the early morning light casting an unusual hue on the surrounding landscape. The first rays of the sun were reflecting off the overcast skies above resulting in a magical display of light with an iridescent glow.

There was a good turn out considering the brisk 34 degree temperature with a little rain and slight breeze. As expected everyone was well dressed for the occasion. Certainly those that showed up are some of the most dedicated and hardy bunch of the Fog Dodgers.

Present were: Ron, Charlene, Rick, Nancy, Keith, Greg, Roger, Nancy T. Joe, John, Bob. There were several others but I didn't record names, sorry about that.

After a short time the weather quickly got better, the sun came out and a few runners were actually shedding garments before getting back to the trail head.

John Loomis photos say it best. Thanks John

WARD AVENUE

We ran and walked the MacKerricher Haul Road today, starting from Ward Avenue in Cleone.  The weather forecast was spot on, with light rain beginning just as we finished at 9:00 a.m.  The ocean was quite spectacular this morning, with at least 4 wave breaks coming constantly.
