The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

POMO BLUFFS PARK

Another perfect day!

Looking north towards Noyo and Pomo Bluffs Park.  J. Loomis photo
It was a very pretty morning.  It was clear, sunny and 'warm'.  I forgot to check the temperature but I think it was about 53 degrees when we started.  A short way in to the run, I decided to be a walker, or we would have had 9 runners, a nice change.

It's harvest time in John's garden.  He always does really well with his veggies and fruits.  They make the blog look good!

Next weekend is Paul Bunyan Days here, otherwise known as Labor Day Weekend.  I thought it would be best to avoid town for our run/walk, but we just went to the Caspar Logging Road last week and every thing else is in or near town.  Mendocino might be kind of busy.  Another complication is that the Noyo Headlands Race is on Sunday and will occupy all of the Coastal Trail.  So, again, we will use the Caspar Logging Road.   Fortunately, Kira always saves us a big round table at David's!

Have a good week!

Present were:  Fran, Deb, Sam, Ron, Cheryl N., Neil, Sam B., Nancy B., Nancy T., Toni, Joe, John, Bob,   Sherry (from Placerville and invited by Tom and Nancy), Nancy and Tom (15).

NEXT SUNDAY, SEPT. 1ST @ 8:00 A.M.:  CASPAR LOGGING ROAD (again, for reasons stated above).

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN @ 7:00 A.M.: BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD ON TUESDAY AND HEESER DRIVE/MENDOCINO ON THURSDAY.

CASPAR LOGGING ROADS

Somewhere near 55 degrees, no wind and overcast skies, that's how it was this morning as we met and got started, up Jackson State Forest Road 500, aka Caspar Logging Road.  It was another perfect morning for walking and running.  We've had more "perfect" days this summer than we're used to but nobody is complaining.  Sadly though, it was the warmest July ever for the country as a whole.

I'm guessing; I guess the barn came first?  J. Loomis photo
Nancy T. brought her daughter, Julie, and grand-son, Logan, here from Idaho, thanks, Nancy.  Also present:  Charlene, Ron, Deb, Sam, John, Toni, Joe, Greg, Keith, Fran, Nancy and Tom (15).

COASTAL TRAIL - MIDDLE

Groundhog Day!  Or so it seems, just one beautiful morning after another, over and over.  We've been very fortunate here and I hope that I didn't just jinx it!

It was 56 degrees this morning, calm, clear and the ocean was, as they say, 'flat as a pancake'.

Present today:  Pat, Leon, Marie Teresa, Charlene, Ron, Nancy T., Toni, Joe, Deb, Sam, John, Greg, Keith and Tom (15).  It seems as though there were more.  I'm sorry if I missed you.

WARD AVENUE

We ran and walked the MacKerricher Haul Road this morning.  At our 8:00 start, it was 56 degrees with no wind and the sun trying to break through a thin fog.  It was really nice but by our half way point, it was already beginning to be too warm.  We are so spoiled, living here on the coast.

Pat brought a friend and new person, Marie Teresa "M.T.", thanks Pat.  Also present: Leon, Gay, Mark, Deb, Sam, Nancy T., Cheryl, Neil, Peter, Cindy, Chandra, John, Nancy and Tom (16).
