The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

BIG RIVER

It was great to get back to Big River again.  So great, that I think we'll do it again in two weeks, but for next week, we will meet behind the Fort Bragg Fire Station and use the Coastal Trail.

I think we were lucky to get our activity in when we did.  Just after finishing, the fire smoke returned, turning what looked to be a beautiful day into another one of amber filtered sunlight.  It's going to be warm though, 77 as I write this at 12:30 p.m.

NEXT SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4th @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN/WALK/BIKE, COASTAL TRAIL - MIDDLE (behind the F.B. Fire Station)

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN/WALK @ 7:30 A.M.:  Beginning behind the Fort Bragg Fire Station on Tuesdays and on Big River Logging Road on Thursdays.  Note the new starting time, it's getting dark in the morning lately.

MENDOCINO HEADLANDS AND TOWN

Another perfect morning!  It was 57 degrees and calm.  There was just enough smoke in the air to make the rising sun appear as a huge red ball.

Thank you, John, for today's photos.  In the first one, if you look at the upper right corner, you'll see the red sunrise we had today.  The middle photo, I think, shows the sun a little better.  It was very large and very red this morning, so I guess the smoke is back.  It's not noticeable at ground level though.

I'm only guessing here, about what John sent me, but my guess is that it's looking through the windows of the Mendocino church.

We ran, walked and biked around Heeser Drive and the township of Mendocino.  Present today: Maria (whom I've been calling Marie Teresa, so now I'm confused and will get it straight next week), Pat, Leon, Fran, Gay, Mark, Joe, Shari, Charlene, Ron, Deb, Sam, John, Nancy and Tom (15).

NEXT SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN/WALK/BIKE, BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD.  It has been a long time since we've met at Big River.  I'm told that the mosquitoes are not a problem now but you might bring your repellent just in case.

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN/WALK @ 7:30 A.M.:  Beginning behind the Fort Bragg Fire Station on Tuesdays and near Harvest at Mendocino on Thursdays.  Note the new starting time, it's getting dark in the morning lately.

COASTAL TRAIL - NORTH

Lately, everyone around town and on the internet, has been talking about the fires and smoke, using numbers and indexes we'd never even heard of before.  Today, was just below the magic 200 number, or so the NFL says, so we did it!  We ran (slowly), walked and biked, starting at Glass Beach and going south on the Coastal Trail.

CASPAR LOGGING ROAD

It's Labor Day weekend and we've got great weather and a lot of people on the coast.  We met at Caspar today, so as not to be among the crowds (?).

Thank you, John, for today's photos.

Big River Rower

The mornings are cooling down a bit now and I think it may be time to give Big River a try.  In the summer time, the mosquitoes make it very unpleasant for walking.  Maybe week after next.  For next week, we will start at Glass Beach and from there, go any direction you want.  We haven't started there for quite awhile.

NEXT SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN/WALK/BIKE, COASTAL TRAIL - NORTH (Glass Beach parking lot).

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN/WALK @ 7:00 A.M.:  Beginning behind the Fort Bragg Fire Station on Tuesdays and near Harvest at Mendocino on Thursdays.
