The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD

Pastel Mendocino, J. Loomis photo
Where we start our run/walk at Big River, it usually is a little breezy.  This morning, it was 46 degrees and, a little breezy, so it seemed like 30 degrees, quite cold.  The "silver lining" though, it's too cold for mosquitoes.

MENDOCINO

Seen on our run this morning:

Springtime blossoms, J. Loomis photo

We walked and ran around Heeser Drive and Mendocino Village this morning.  Though it was kind of dark and drizzly, the above photo from John should give most of us hope, that Spring is just (?) around the corner.  We actually saw a couple of blooming trees and the days are getting longer now.

Present today:  Fran, Joe, John, Nancy and Tom.  We joined Toni for breakfast at David's.

It was "King Tide" morning, with the high tide being +7.3 feet and if you're familiar with lower Big River, you can appreciate John's photo below, taken just after our run.

COASTAL TRAIL - SOUTH

It was a beautiful morning!  Light offshore winds blew all the sea haze away and with the haze went the humidity, making it a "warm" and dry 50 degrees.   The visibility was great, views all the way to Cape Mendocino.  Ron noted though that no whales are spouting.

Thanks, John, for today's photos.

Quite a few rain showers forecasted in the upcoming week.  Hopefully, they will hold off on Sunday when we meet on Heeser Drive.  Right now, the forecast for next Sunday is similar to today, so it should be beautiful!

RUSSIAN GULCH

Russian Gulch, on a better day
Give Joe, Nancy and Tom an extra star for showing up on this morning.  Joe thought the stormy ocean was very beautiful.  Nancy and Tom enjoyed both the ocean and the turkeys and deer.

J. Loomis photo, also a better day
The deer still have their antlers but probably not for much longer.  John took these photos around Russian Gulch on other days.  Thanks John, for sending them.

The reason we all earned an extra star today was because it really was a day meant to be spent reading the paper in bed or sitting by the fire watching a movie.  Temperature was 49, actually good for walking or running.  The rain held fairly steady and with the southerly wind, found it's way through the seams and down the necklines or our raingear and wicked up our pant legs.

I think a few Fog Dodgers are out with the flu bug and with the rainy forecast, it's no wonder there were only three of us.  But, we did it!  We met Toni at David's for breakfast afterwards.  It was slow at David's also and we therefore had nice visits to our table by Kira and four of the waitresses; Gabby, Gizellah, Margaret and Lacy.

Russian Gulch bridge, another pretty morning

Next weeks run/walk will be on the beautiful Coastal Trail - South, and hopefully with better weather.
