The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

Caspar Logging Road

John found these turkeys on the way to this morning's run/walk.  The hub caps also caught his eye. I'm learning, very slowly, how to blog.  He gave me a couple more photos that I'm unable to arrange on this page without making it much  too long.   I'll save them for a later date.  Thanks, John.

It was 30 degrees this morning at our start but luckily no wind.  It was a good morning for a run or walk.  Present were:  Terry, Ginny, John, Katrina, Sarah, Rod, Nancy T., Roger, Neil, Bob J., Craig, Greg, Fran, Cheryl W., Tom T., Nancy and Tom (17).

With dry weather predicted for the next 5 days, at
least, I think that Jackson State Forest Road 450
should be okay for next week.

NEXT SUNDAY, March 3rd @ 8:00 A.M.:
JSF Road 450,  Hare Creek, see "Our Routes" above.

EVERY TUESDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK, beginning on Point Cabrillo Drive, 1/10 of a mile north of its south end.

EVERY THURSDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: VAN DAMME STATE PARK, beginning at the beach.

Fern Canyon, Van Damme State Park

Spring Ranch, Little River

John wanted to finish his run early today and then get out of town, so he went out yesterday and took a couple of nice photos for us.  Then, he started this morning an hour before the rest of us (some of us call people like him "lion bait") so while the rest of us are shivering in the parking lot at 41 degrees, John was finished already and steamin!  Thanks John, and have a good trip.
Little River Creek

When we arrived this morning, I was amazed at the number of cars in the Van Damme parking lot.  It looked like one of those minus tide mornings, when the lot fills up with abalone pickers/divers.  And so now I'm puzzled.  I come up mentally with 23 names present this morning but it just seems there should be more.  I apologize if I've left you off and I really was happy that you were there!

It was great this morning  to meet a new runner, Katrina.  Also, Chuck was back (I think we had met before?) again.  Really nice, to see 11 runners this morning, like days of old.  We love the walkers too but the Fog Dodgers started as a running group and lately there have been many more of the latter.   If my mind is right, also present were:  John (lion bait), Rod (out ahead of us and doing trail maintenance, thanks), Sarah, Ginny, Terry, Fran, Suzi, Neil, Nancy B., Rick, Tanya, Cheryl, Bob, Shari, Peter, Steve, Greg, Gay, Mark, Nancy and Tom (23).

Next Sunday is the fourth Sunday of the month.  That means that there are nice community breakfasts at both Whitesboro Grange and the Caspar Community Center.  Last month we were at the Whitesboro Grange/Navarro Ridge Road and so this

Big River Logging Road

We walked and ran the Big River Logging Road this morning.  It was a beautiful and very cold morning, 35 degrees at our start.

Here's a Big River photo taken by John.

Quite a few cold and happy faces at 8:00 a.m. and I hope that I saw and got to say hello to all.  Thanks to Tom T., for bringing Linda.  Also present:  Fran, Greg, Craig, Deb, Sam, Elaine, Cheryl N. Neil, Orah, Steve, Nancy B., Rick, Nancy T., Roger, Marc, Gay, Gerri, Mark, Ginny, Terry,  Suzi, Toni, Joe, Bob , John, Rod, Bob J.,  Kathy, Steve, Nancy and Tom (33).

Here's a Big River photo taken by Steve.

It's supposed to be dry all next week and so it would be a good time to go to Van Damme State Park again.  I think the following week will probably be the Caspar Logging Road, since we haven't been there in two and a half months.

If you have a favorite walk/run that we haven't been doing, please let me know about it.  All we need is parking and enough trail that a person can go for 6 miles or so without getting lost.

NEXT SUNDAY, FEB. 17TH  @ 8:00 A.M.: VAN DAMME STATE PARK, see "Our Routes" above.  Can't take dogs into Fern Canyon but all of  the lower and upper campground loop is open for dogs.

Russian Gulch State Park

Pt. Cabrillo, J. Loomis

48 degrees and overcast at 8 this morning, just like a summer morning.  I don't know if it was the "warm" morning or the fact that the rest of the day has been reserved on the couch with buffalo wings, but we had 32 happy and talkative runners and walkers this morning.  I was a little distracted with so many guests and returnees, I hope that I haven't forgotten anybody.

Thanks Peter, for bringing 4 or 5 guests, Rich, Pat, John, Jay and Chrissy.  Also present:  Neil, Orah, Steve, Rod, Sarah, Ginny, Terry, Toni, Joe, Nancy B., Rick, Nancy T., Roger, John, Deb, Sam, Elaine, Craig, Greg, Gay, Mark, Charlene, Cheryl, Bob, Nancy and Tom.
