The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

Russian Gulch

When we left home in Fort Bragg, it was 57 and sunny, so no warm coat needed.  Arrive at Russian Gulch and it was now 53 and thick overcast - brrr..

The overcast did get less as we walked inland, and the thimble berries were ripening nicely.  Other than that, nothing special happened, just a pleasant walk with the expected workout coming up the hill at the end.

This morning we enjoyed the company of Fran, Ron, Charlene, Roger, Nancy T., Nancy B., Joe, Bob and Pat.

The mist can just be seen in the first photo taken of some of our walkers this morning, and as can be seen, the other photos of Russian Gulch were taken on a nicer day.

Ten Mile River - and Happy Father's Day

What a beautiful morning. What a joy.  I think all of us, maybe for different reasons, are all so thankful to be alive to enjoy the natural beauty of where we live and the wonderful friendship we all share.

We haven't been to Ten Mile for quite a while as it is quite a drive for many folks, however, it is a beautiful walk along the river, and mosquito free! When we started the sun was warm, though the air temp was about 45 deg and a slight mist over the hills, which you can just see in one of the photos.  The air temp must have risen rapidly as it was down to shirt sleeves on the way back.

We had a good turnout with 16 people, so I guess many others feel like me, Ten Mile is a great walk.
The happy walkers this morning were, Rick & Nancy B., Mark & Gay who also brought their grandaughter Kyra, welcome back Pat & Leon, Cheryl & Neil, Charlene, Fran, Joe, Roger & Nancy T, and our 2 runners Ron & John.  You can see the blue sky and smiling faces in the photo John took of us all.

There's one other photo from our walk and one of some Totems that John found somewhere along Ten Mile.

Don't forget click a photo to see it fill the screen.

Such a spectacular crisp Spring day for a Fog Dodger Walk/Run. We all drove up to Ward Avenue. There were very mild conditions, no wind, and clear blue sky. We had a small and lively group that showed up and Rodger Thornburn and Nancy joined us  back on the trail. Nancy Banker lead the fast walkers (John Loomis and Shari Lyons), while the remaining group sauntered there way to Mackerricher. Everyone came together by the time we were getting back to the end of the walk.
We did take a group shot for those who happened to enjoy this lovely Sunday morning tradition.

Today’s Run/Walk was very nice and with few walkers and no runners. Joe, John, Pat Tom, Mark and Gay showed up for a lively walk and extra credit goes to Mark and Gay, and Pat and Tom for walking the entire distance, and driving back to Glass Beach.  It has become a popular venue.

The morning was quite nice, with very light breeze, and cool to medium conditions, with small white caps decorating the blue Pacific ocean.  A casual bicycle rider, a roller blade’r, and a runner were seen on the start of the walk. John and Joe had interesting discussions about Jules Verne, and the Civil War battle ships constructed back in the day.

With Roger’s continuing progress, at the Hospital, and with Nancy Thornburn’s e-mails about his improvement we all wait to see Roger back on the walk in hopefully short order.
I send a few pictures of the day and one specifically for Roger Thornburn...
