The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

CASPAR LOGGING ROAD

John took the day off from running so that he could go see his new grand-daughter.  He sent me a few miscellaneous photos, knowing that we all like his photos and that the blog, without some photos, would not look too good.  Thanks John.  The first two photos are flowers from his yard, a rhodie and a rose.  The third is a sculpture John did called "Kite Flying".  Lastly, a gazebo and swing just finished by John for a local resident.  John builds things very strong!

But he also can have a delicate touch.  I'm not sure how big this kite flyer is but I think it's small.

Present today: Eric, from Chico and a friend of Charlene and Ron, here for at least a second visit;  Fran, Nancy T., Nancy B., Rick, Toni, Joe, Deb, Sam, Nancy and Tom (13).

It was a windy morning and at 51 degrees, seemed colder than that.  No rain though, so we felt fortunate of that.  Nine of us had breakfast at a very busy David's on this Memorial Day Weekend.

NEXT SUNDAY, JUNE 2ND @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN AND WALK, PUDDING CREEK TRESTLE

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN @ 7:00 A.M.: BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD ON TUESDAY AND HEESER DRIVE/MENDOCINO ON THURSDAY.

POMO BLUFFS PARK

A very pretty morning indeed!  At 8 o'clock this morning, it was a little chilly at 48, mainly due to the breeze.  But aside from that, it was a great morning!  We were in between rain showers and therefore a good chance of a rainbow, sunshine or a downpour.  We avoided any downpour and there was a very pretty rainbow.  John and Toni each sent in a rainbow picture and they are each so good, they are both attached.

Here's one, and.....
here's the other.  Thanks to John and Toni.
There was a very good rain shower just about the time most Fog Dodgers should have been leaving home for the run/walk and I believe that is why we were a small group today.  Those staying home missed a beautiful walk/run.  It was understandable though because it was really raining at 7:30 or so.

Present today:  Toni, Joe, Shari, Peter, Charlene, Ron, John, Nancy and Tom (9).

I'm having trouble listing upcoming venues more than a week or so at a time.  Not that it is all that difficult but with only 6 or so to choose from, it seems like they are repeating too often.  They are all nice places to go to on a Sunday though, so it will work out somehow.  Next week is Memorial Day weekend and so going back into the State Forest seems like a good choice.
NEXT SUNDAY, MAY 26TH @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN AND WALK, CASPAR LOGGING ROAD

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN @ 7:00 A.M.: BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD ON TUESDAY AND HEESER DRIVE/MENDOCINO ON THURSDAY.

Coastal Trail - North

Overcast skies and 53 degrees at Glass Beach this morning, perfect for running or walking.  It is Mother's Day today and we were a small group.  The ocean was kind of unsettled and not many boats were out.  We think that the salmon season is closed for a period now.

John says, "Happy Mother's Day" to all of our moms.
Present today: Lisa, Toni, Joe, Nancy T., Cheryl N., Neil, Bob, John, Nancy and Tom (10).

The central access point to the Coastal Trail is now open.  The parking lot and entrance gate are just west of the F. B. Fire Station.  The parking lot is not "finished" yet and I think there's a pavillion or something to be added after the property transfer from G.P. to Fort Bragg completes but it's going to be a very nice and frequent, I believe, starting point for the Fog Dodgers.  From there, you'd have the option of going north, south or east.  It's just a good location.

MENDOCINO

Today's run/walk was in Mendocino.  John has sent me pictures for the day, though the first one (below) was of Mendocino on another day.  Today was overcast and 49, good for walking or running.  The picture below appears colder and cloudy, but very pretty.

Bob ended up being the only runner after Ron, John, Nancy and Tom all bailed early in order to get to Boonville for the annual Boontling Classic 5K race.   Also present today:  Lisa, Catherine, Cindy, Nancy T., Fran, Nancy B., Rick, Deb and Sam (14).

At Boonville, Nancy brought home the Gold, whereas the rest of us were just happy to have been there.  We all won nice bottles of  wine in the post-race raffle.  John did get a couple of photos from Boonville, below.

This was the winner of the Goat Division
