The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD

I hope that I don't jinx things but it really seems like Spring.  John took some photos today and I commented to him, how Spring has a way of making everything pretty!

I missed saying hi to Barbara today.  She had been gone awhile.  One of these days we will be able to remove the masks, making it much easier to recognize friends at a distance.  Thanks for coming, Barbara.

PUDDING CREEK TRESTLE

It was really windy this morning, and pretty cold also, on the MacKerricher Haul Road.  John sent me this photo awhile back and I put it in the blog then, now back for it's second showing.

                                          Virgin Creek, J. Loomis photo
In this photo, you can see how the wind has driven the sand up onto the beach.  Normally, the creek banks are pretty much nonexistent.

Some of us today, standing upon the Virgin Creek bridge.  It's useless since Covid, to attach names to photos.  Hopefully, we won't look like this forever.  Of note though, in the middle, please say hello to Doug, Kim and Bowie.

While out yesterday, John got a few photos depicting the beginning of Spring.

And then there's this one, "Hanging On", a Russian Gulch pine tree, living precariously.

Present today: Gay, Mark, Fran, Charlene, Shari, Pat, Leon, M.T., Kim, Doug, Toni, Joe, John, Nancy and Tom (15).

NEXT SUNDAY, FEB. 28TH @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN/WALK/BIKE,  BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD

POMO BLUFFS PARK

John sent this drawing he did of the Albion River Bridge a while back and I've been saving it til we were down that way.  We never seem to go that far anymore.  I really like his drawing and thought you would too.

These other pictures, also from John, show the season and the weather for today.  This one above he titled "White Blossoms".

Tulip Tree at the Botanical Gardens

                                                               Rain Drops

We were fortunate to not get rained upon while we ran and walked today.  Town is very busy  on this holiday weekend and I hope the rain doesn't hurt the local shops.

                                                                 Daffodils

Present today:  Gay, Mark, Fran, Joe, Deb, Sam, John, Bob, Leon, Pat, Nancy and Tom (12).

NEXT SUNDAY, FEB. 21ST @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN/WALK/BIKE,  PUDDING CREEK TRESTLE

COASTAL TRAIL - NORTH

We were on the Coastal Trail this morning, starting near Glass Beach.  The morning was very cold, but it was also sunny and calm.  It was really very pretty.

The bike riders made it far enough north on the trail to see Lake Cleone.  It formerly drained to the sea but is now landlocked by a huge sand berm, causing it to completely flood the lake parking lot and Mill Creek Drive leading out to Laguna Point.  Amazing to see and a real shame to lose for public access.

Lake Cleone, from the Haul Road overpass of Mill Creek Drive

It was nice to have Kim L. back today with her husband, Doug.  I wish we had had more time to talk, maybe next week.

Also present today: Fran, Pat, Leon, Joe,   Shari, John, Bob, Deb, Sam, Charlene, Gay, Mark, Cheryl & Scott (sort of), Nancy and Tom (18).

Thanks to John for today's photos.  Above is a Haul Road Raven and below is a house near Glass Beach.  Thanks John!

The long range forecast calls for rain next week, tapering off for the weekend.  I think Pomo Bluffs - Noyo Bay will be okay for all.

NEXT SUNDAY, FEB. 7TH @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN/WALK/BIKE,  POMO BLUFFS PARK

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN/WALK @ 7:30 A.M.:  Beginning behind the Fort Bragg Fire Station on Tuesdays and on Big River Logging Road on Thursdays.
