The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

WARD AVENUE

This was a 52 degree morning that felt like 40 degrees.  Maybe not too cold for walkers and runners but I can attest that on a bike, cutting through the fog and drizzle, it was very cold.  But the stormy looking ocean, with large beautiful waves, seemed to compensate for the cold.

Thanks to John L. for all of today's photos.  He says that the sea lion was taken yesterday and that the blue heron one taken on another morning that was dark and foggy.

Next week, with the time change, it will be a little brighter hopefully, though the weather forecast right now predicts a cold weekend.

Present today: Gay, Mark, Leon, Pat, M.T., Charlene, Ron, Joe, Deb, Sam, John, Nancy and Tom (13).

As I've mentioned before, it is sometimes difficult working with "Blogger".  As I was uploading the photos above, the whole post shrunk down to a two inch wide column. I can't fix anything right now, so I'm just going with it as is.

(update: after posting, I see that on the internet, the blog came out nearly normal but I'm not going to try fooling around with it by putting captions on John's photos or anything else.

Hope to see you all next week.  The park at Russian Gulch should be closed for the season, so nice and quiet!

NEXT SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN/WALK/BIKE, RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK.  STANDARD TIME!

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN/WALK @ 7:30 A.M.:  Beginning behind the Fort Bragg Fire Station on Tuesdays and on Big River Logging Road on Thursdays.  Note the new starting time, it's getting dark in the morning lately.

COASTAL TRAIL - SOUTH

This morning was spectacular on the coast!  We met at the Coastal Trail south parking lot.  It was about 54 degrees, sunny and just a light breeze.

Present today:  Fran, Pat, Leon, M.T., Cindy, Gay, Mark, Shari, Toni, Joe, Charlene, Ron, Bob, John, Sam, Cheryl*, Scott*, Nancy, Tom (19).

Thanks to John for all of today's pictures.

Next week, by request, we'll start at Ward Ave.  It's a beautiful stretch of the Coastal Trail and very few people up there.  It will be a fairly high tide, so not conducive to beach walking.  I hope this weather can continue for awhile.

Two weeks from today, we will move our clocks back one hour, so it won't seem quite so early.  For the mid-week Fog Dodgers, we already had to shift our starting time from 7 to 7:30, and even that is beginning to seem pretty early.

Thanks again to John L. for the pictures today!

BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD

It was a real pretty morning on Big River, something like 55 degrees and clear, sunny skies.  It seems that there are a lot of people in town, maybe enjoying our great Fall weather, getting in that last trip to the coast before winter sets in.  Oh heck, it's not even Halloween yet, I shouldn't be talkin' winter.

COASTAL TRAIL - MIDDLE

I think it was 56 degrees this morning and overcast.  The moisture in the air and the light breeze made it seem cooler.  It was good for walking and running but on a bike, it was cold!  We had fun though and got the hearts pumping and it is always good to see our friends.

                                                            Noyo Mooring Basin

Today, I saw: M.T., Pat, Leon, Fran, Joe, Shari, Gay, Mark, Charlene, Ron, Deb, Sam, John, Bob, Nancy and me (16).
                                                             Boat haulout at Noyo

John says, it was not easy to find photos to shoot on this overcast morning, but I think he always does great.  Without John's photos, most people would just scroll quickly to the bottom, in order to find out the location for the next run/walk.  Thank youk, John, for brightening up the blog!

                                                               October apple season

This buck near John's house made it thru our coastal deer season, congrats!

Next week, we will go to Big River again.  I heard no mosquito complaints when we were there two weeks ago, and it is great for biking, running and walking!  We've been using the Fort Bragg area venues so much that this is payback for you Mendocino folks.  Big River is beautiful for all though.

NEXT SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11th @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN/WALK/BIKE, BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD
