The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

CASPAR LOGGING ROADS

Foggy morning, Fern Drive, J. Loomis photo

We brought our friends, Renee and Larry, along today.  We are RV friends and they are just passing through on their way to Washington.  Also visiting was our "old" Fog Dodger friend, Kim, and her daughter, Adeline, and Adeline's friend, Carmen.  So, it was nice that we had a nice turnout with so many friendly people.  I think our guests had a nice run or walk.  Also present, Chandra, Laura, Jan, Charlene, Ron, Tom T., Bill, Zelda, Nancy T., Roger, John, Susan, Bruce, Nancy and Tom (20).

Hangin' out in backyard safety on opening weekend

It was a good morning for walking and running, 52 degrees, overcast and calm.  We were on Jackson State Forest Road 500 and I was surprised to see only one vehicle pass by us.  This, I think, is the opening weekend of deer season and on opening weekends, we usually see a number of pickups.  Anyway, it was a good morning!

We topped off the morning by having breakfast at David's, where we wished Simone well.  She is heading off to college now and we will miss her.  Kira will certainly miss her little girl.

Chandra mentioned today, that she would like to help the Fog Dodgers by doing a Facebook page.  I hope this happens and that it can bring in more runners, walkers and younger people.  The more people that show, the more likely that there will be someone that walks or runs about the same pace that you do.  We really do need more young runners and walkers.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 21ST, TEN MILE RIVER LOGGING ROAD, blackberries should still be plentiful.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 28TH, NOYO HEADLANDS PARK - NORTH, parking lot near Glass Beach.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 4TH, NOYO HEADLANDS PARK- SOUTH, parking lot west of Taco Bell.

NEXT SUNDAY, AUGUST 21st @ 8:00 A.M.: TEN MILE RIVER LOGGING ROAD, (see Our Routes above).  There should be blackberries to pick if you'd like to, not real sure because last year the edges of the roadway were "weed-whacked" really good.

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN @ 7:00 A.M.: BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD.
