The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

NAVARRO RIDGE ROAD

We went back to Navarro Ridge today, hoping for better views than a month ago.  Briefly, the sun tried to break through, I think enough to give those that haven't been on the ridge before a little glimpse.  In the photos below, there are a couple from John, that show what it was like today, and a couple that were taken on a better day.  Thank you, John.

After doing the blog, I received a few photos from Toni and Joe.  I have inserted those and you'll find them interesting.  They are in South Africa on a tour to view some very special and different types of plants.  You'll have to ask them to explain the details.  It looks pretty nice there!

                                                              Our "view" this morning.

Present today: Jean, Sky, Fran, Charlene, Barbara, John, Diana, Jeff, Deb, Sam, Nancy and Tom (12).

This looked like some kind of Memorial, not sure why or whom for.

Nice looking barn on a sunny day.

On good days, you can get some incredible views from Navarro Ridge.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 25TH, @8:00 A.M., COASTAL TRAIL - NORTH (Glass Beach Parking Lot)

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN/WALK @ 7:30 A.M.:  Beginning behind the Fort Bragg Fire Station.

PUDDING CREEK TRESTLE

Well, that was fun!  Kind of like the old days.  Today, we had six runners!  Please don't ask me what I would call a runner.  We met at Pudding Creek under foggy overcast and just a slight breeze.  When we turned a half hour later, the slight breeze became a moderate headwind, and it was pretty cool!  Actually, John's photos for the day just came through on my email.  He says it was cold!  And, it reminded him of a sign he had painted on the Noyo Harbor Icehouse many years ago.  It's still there and you can see it below.

Present today:  Sky, Fran, Charlene, Jean, Deb, Sam, Bob, Diana, Jeff, Barbara, Pat, Leon, John, Shari, Nancy and Tom (16).

John's garden seems to be doing well

Thanks, John, for all of today's photos.  There were a couple more but "blogger" is not allowing me to move things around, so I'm cutting this short and will try to get them in some other time.

On the fourth Sunday last month, we went to the Whitesboro Grange.  The breakfast was good but the walk was not so good, very heavy fog.  This morning, the vote was overwhelming, we will give it another try next Sunday.

MENDOCINO HEADLANDS AND TOWN

It was a perfect morning for walking (and running, Bob) around the Mendocino Headlands and township.  It was an even better morning, having two new friends join with us, Claudette and Sky.  Hopefully, they will come again.

It was 55 degrees, sunny and calm, really nice!

Thank you, John, for today's photos, all taken near our walk today.  You can click on the photos to enlarge.  These first two, are from near our starting point today, at Jack Peters Creek.

Jean lived on our route today and she gave us a tour of her beautiful garden and yard.  It seemed as though everything is blooming now and her yard is very, very pretty.  Thank you, Jean!

Also present today: Charlene, Fran, Jean, Deb, Sam, Pat, Leon, Kim, Doug, Joe, John, Shari, Bob, Diana, Jeff, Nancy and Tom (19).

The weather forecast is for similar weather all next week.  It's been awhile since we started from the Pudding Creek Trestle, so that's where we will start.  It should be a nice morning and by walking and running there, we avoid vehicle traffic.  The following week, we may go back to Navarro Ridge Road.  Last month we were there and it was very foggy, kind of a disappointment.  But, the Pancake Breakfast at the Whitesboro Grange was popular, so let me know if you want to go there again.

COASTAL TRAIL - MIDDLE

Today, we met behind the Fort Bragg Fire Station, the middle access to our Coastal Trail.  It was a beautiful and relatively warm morning, 62 degrees.

Present today:  Gay, Mark, Fran, Jean, Joe, Charlene, Bob, Pat, Leon, Deb, Sam, Nancy and Tom (13).

Thanks to John for all of today's photos, taken locally.  He couldn't make it today, taking care of his wife after her knee surgery.

Last month, many of us enjoyed the Pancake Breakfast at St. Anthony's Church in Mendocino. By request, next week we will walk and run around the Mendocino Headlands and town, and I would guess that most will again visit St. Anthony's.

WARD AVENUE

It was great walking weather this morning, warm-ish, overcast and calm.  There were no takers for walking or running on the minus tide exposed beach.  The shoreline and exposed reefs looked beautiful.
We were at Ward Avenue and John has given us some nice photos taken around the area.

NAVARRO RIDGE ROAD

It was foggy and cool this morning on Navarro Ridge.  Too bad, since there are some really pretty views normally.  Fortunately, we have John, who traveled back up the road after our walk and returned with some nice photos.  He found that one of the cows had been tagged with our name and date.

Thanks, Fran, for bringing your little sister, Annie.  Also present today: Deb, Charlene, Diana, Jeff, Pat, Leon, Joe, John, Nancy and Tom (12).

Thanks, John, for all of today's photos.

Next week we will walk and run at Ward Avenue.  About when we start (7:42 a.m.) there is a nice -0.2 foot low tide.  It follows a high tide of +5.7 at 12:43 a.m.  It will be good for those that like to beach walk looking for treasures that washed up during the night.

POINT CABRILLO LIGHTHOUSE

John couldn't make it to our walk today but fortunately had in his files photos of four of his favorie West Coast Lighthouses.  Above, is the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, taken on a morning a little clearer than we had today.  We had fog and a cool breeeze but it was good for walking.

With COVID shutting everything down for the past couple of years, it has been a very long time since we've gone down to Navarro Ridge Road, by request,  to walk and run.  They have a great Pancake Breakfast there.  By request, next week we will revisit the Whitesboro Grange.  It's worth the small extra driving distance.
It's a small Grange and very "quaint", with very good food.
