The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

COVID-19 RUN/WALKS

Due to the Shelter in Place order, today's Group Run and Walk was a little different.  I guess we covered more area than ever before and we broke our rule of always starting at exactly 8:00 a.m.

I'm sorry about some of the very small font below.  Lots of copying and pasting and "Blogger" doesn't seem to like it.  I'm unable to correct it.

Nancy T. walked from home and said,
"With the Mandatory Shelter in Place I’m pretty much limited to walking the dog in the neighborhood.  It feels like a ghost town most of the time, which is a good thing at the moment.  It means people are taking things seriously.  The photo I took this morning is of Dana Street in Fort Bragg.  On the left is the High School, on the right is Dana Grey Elementary.  It’s usually bustling with baseball this time of year."

Dana St., thanks Nancy T.
John ran around his home and checked out his old trail and did really well.  He has given me a few photos:

The quietness of the morning gave John time to think of a poem:

WHAT DID I MISS
I did not miss the fresh air, not the bright sky and sun so fare.
Was it the occasional springtime flower bud, not so!
Many were seen so bright and colorful with a glow.
Maybe it was the bark of the dog, or that trail hazard of a recently fallen log?
But what did I miss and now I know.
It was all those who participate in the Fog Dodgers, and a part of
Our favorite  Sunday show.

Nancy B.  walked at home, as did Cheryl and Neil.

Nancy and Tom broke the ordinance and walked the MacKerricher Haul Road, saw Charlene and Ron there also.  We rationalized this thing and thought that maybe the parks were closed to keep down crowds.  A problem in some areas but not here.  I know, we were wrong and I'm not going to do it again.

I heard from Kira, that Toni and Joe were out, so I'm counting them too.  We picked up our breakfasts to go at David's.

Fran wrote to me, saying that she was going to walk after the morning showers and would check out the Mendocino headlands.  She did, and was welcomed by the woman below.  So, it appears that at least 14 of us got out of our homes for a little fresh air.

Shari and Peter walked Lewis in Jackson State Forest (14).

NEXT SUNDAY, 4/5,  We'll have to run and walk from our homes.  Let me know how you did!

County Shelter in Place Order, pertinent section here:

Allowed: "To engage in outdoor activity, such as walking, jogging, hiking or biking, initiated from one’s residence, which does not involve the use of a motor vehicle or public transit to the location of exercise, such as for example, within walking, jogging, hiking, or biking distance of your place of residence only, provided the individuals comply with Social Distancing Requirements as defined in this Section."

We have had a Fog Dodger Run/Walk every Sunday for almost 22 years now.  This isn't going to stop the Fog Dodgers.  So, I will be walking from my home and I suggest that you do also.  I'd welcome an email ( triley@mcn.org ) from you saying that you were "present".  Give the general area where you walked or ran and if you get an interesting picture or bit of trivia, include that.  I'll post the blog and I bet John can find a picture.  It will be a Multi-venue Fog Dodger Walk/Run!

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN AND WALK @ 7:00 A.M., BIG RIVER ON TUESDAYS AND HEESER DRIVE/MENDOCINO ON THURSDAYS.
