The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

LAGUNA POINT

Good walk today.  Overcast, calm and about 55 degrees, made for perfect conditions for a walk or a run.  The ocean was very calm but there was a small surf break at Virgin Creek and about a dozen surfers were out in what seemed like perfect conditions.

Lake Cleone, destined to become a lagoon.

                                                     Harvest time in John's garden

Present today: Shari, Peter, Toni, Joe, Jean, Charlene, Diana, Jeff, Sky, John, Kim, Doug, Nancy and Tom (14).

You can always click on the "Our Routes" button at the top of the page for directions and details.

SUNDAY, OCT. 9th, @8:00 A.M., MENDOCINO HEADLANDS. We will begin at the Heeser Drive restrooms.  You can walk the trails or roads around Mendocino Headlands and the town of Mendocino.  Great views.

COASTAL TRAIL - NORTH

It was a nice Autumn morning at 8:00 and then, just to remind us that we're on the coast, half way through our walk the Summer fog came in.  We had a good time throughout it all.

John took these pictures from Glass Beach on another day.  This one is looking north.

Looks to me like "The Birds"

Present today: Fran, Jean, Charlene, Diana, Jeff, Sky, John, Joe, Mark, Shari, Nancy and Tom (12).

                                                                  Glass Beach quail

                                                              Picture made from sea glass

Peppers, tomatoes and egg plant from John's garden

The last time we ran or walked from Laguna Point was on Feb. 13th.  Fran remembers that day.  By request, next Sunday we will again meet there.  It's a beautiful place and gives you several options as to which way to go.  Hope to see you there.

You can always click on the "Our Routes" button at the top of the page for directions and details.

SUNDAY, OCT. 2ND, @8:00 A.M., Laguna Point parking lot, MacKerricher State Park, at the end of Mill Creek Dr. in Cleone.  This one is not in the maps under the "Our Routes" button.

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN/WALK @ 7:30 A.M.:  Beginning behind the Fort Bragg Fire Station.

VAN DAMME STATE PARK

I was out of town this past Sunday but I hear we had a pretty good rain, something north of 2 inches.  I doubt that anyone showed up at Van Damme and if that is the case, it will be the first time in over 24 years that there wasn't at least one person attending our Sunday run or walk.  If you did go to Van Damme, please let me know.

Ammendment added on 9/21:  I have been informed that Joe and Sky did show up at Van Damme and therefore the 24 year streak of somebody showing up for our Sunday run or walk continues.

John did however, supply a few nice photos that he has taken over the past couple of weeks.  Thank you, John.

NAVARRO RIDGE ROAD

We went back to Navarro Ridge today, hoping for better views than a month ago.  Briefly, the sun tried to break through, I think enough to give those that haven't been on the ridge before a little glimpse.  In the photos below, there are a couple from John, that show what it was like today, and a couple that were taken on a better day.  Thank you, John.

After doing the blog, I received a few photos from Toni and Joe.  I have inserted those and you'll find them interesting.  They are in South Africa on a tour to view some very special and different types of plants.  You'll have to ask them to explain the details.  It looks pretty nice there!

                                                              Our "view" this morning.

Present today: Jean, Sky, Fran, Charlene, Barbara, John, Diana, Jeff, Deb, Sam, Nancy and Tom (12).

This looked like some kind of Memorial, not sure why or whom for.

Nice looking barn on a sunny day.

On good days, you can get some incredible views from Navarro Ridge.

PUDDING CREEK TRESTLE

Well, that was fun!  Kind of like the old days.  Today, we had six runners!  Please don't ask me what I would call a runner.  We met at Pudding Creek under foggy overcast and just a slight breeze.  When we turned a half hour later, the slight breeze became a moderate headwind, and it was pretty cool!  Actually, John's photos for the day just came through on my email.  He says it was cold!  And, it reminded him of a sign he had painted on the Noyo Harbor Icehouse many years ago.  It's still there and you can see it below.

Present today:  Sky, Fran, Charlene, Jean, Deb, Sam, Bob, Diana, Jeff, Barbara, Pat, Leon, John, Shari, Nancy and Tom (16).

John's garden seems to be doing well

Thanks, John, for all of today's photos.  There were a couple more but "blogger" is not allowing me to move things around, so I'm cutting this short and will try to get them in some other time.

On the fourth Sunday last month, we went to the Whitesboro Grange.  The breakfast was good but the walk was not so good, very heavy fog.  This morning, the vote was overwhelming, we will give it another try next Sunday.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 28TH, @ 8:OO A.M,  GROUP RUN AND WALK.  NAVARRO RIDGE ROAD.  You can always click on the "Our Routes" button at the top of the page for directions and details.

MENDOCINO HEADLANDS AND TOWN

It was a perfect morning for walking (and running, Bob) around the Mendocino Headlands and township.  It was an even better morning, having two new friends join with us, Claudette and Sky.  Hopefully, they will come again.

It was 55 degrees, sunny and calm, really nice!

Thank you, John, for today's photos, all taken near our walk today.  You can click on the photos to enlarge.  These first two, are from near our starting point today, at Jack Peters Creek.

Jean lived on our route today and she gave us a tour of her beautiful garden and yard.  It seemed as though everything is blooming now and her yard is very, very pretty.  Thank you, Jean!

Also present today: Charlene, Fran, Jean, Deb, Sam, Pat, Leon, Kim, Doug, Joe, John, Shari, Bob, Diana, Jeff, Nancy and Tom (19).

The weather forecast is for similar weather all next week.  It's been awhile since we started from the Pudding Creek Trestle, so that's where we will start.  It should be a nice morning and by walking and running there, we avoid vehicle traffic.  The following week, we may go back to Navarro Ridge Road.  Last month we were there and it was very foggy, kind of a disappointment.  But, the Pancake Breakfast at the Whitesboro Grange was popular, so let me know if you want to go there again.
