The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

NAVARRO RIDGE ROAD

Belted Galloway or Dutch Belted Cow, I think it was branded by John

In the Netherlands, it is also known as the Lakenvelder. The term laken means a sheet or blanket around the body.

We were lucky today, rain stopped several hours before our run/walk, and it was 52 degrees with no wind.  It was foggy or overcast when we started but by the half way point, blue skies started showing and we got some of the great views that Navarro Ridge offers.

Nancy and Fran, nice smiles!

Present today:  Nancy B., Fran, Charlene, Ron, Joe, Mark, Deb, Sam, John (Happy Birthday!), Bob, Nancy and Tom (12).

POMO BLUFFS PARK

John supplied all of today's photos.  I like this one of the Coast Guard surf boat returning to port.  The swells this morning were large and I can only guess that they were out playing (practicing).

Present today: Charlene, Ron, Cheryl, Neil, Shari, Peter, Nancy T., Joel, Deb, Sam, Greg, Keith, Joe, John, Nancy and Tom (16).

This morning at 8:00, it was 42 degrees with just a slight breeze and completely overcast.  John's photo to the right shows it exactly right.

The large swells made for some beautiful breaking waves.  The air was clear enough to see the surrounding mountains, a couple with snow on them still.  You could see all the way to Cape Mendocino and Cahto Peak clearly.

Two months ago we ran and walked on Navarro Ridge Road for the first time since July of 2018.  The Grange volunteers were happy to see us back and gave us great service and food.  So, let's try it again!  One Fog Dodger told me that they didn't like pancakes.  So, just have the ham and eggs.  Nancy brought our own vegan pancake batter and they gladly cooked us vegan pancakes!  Give it a try folks, it's not much further than Ten Mile or Little River, maybe 10 minutes.  You'll like it, I guarantee it.

Thanks again to John, always giving me something to make the blog look a little more interesting.  This buck to the left was near our start this morning.  He'll be losing those antlers very soon.

NEXT SUNDAY, JAN. 26TH, 8:00 A.M., GROUP RUN AND WALK, NAVARRO RIDGE ROAD

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN @ 7:00 A.M.: BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD ON TUESDAY AND HEESER DRIVE/MENDOCINO ON THURSDAY.

BIG RIVER

Big River

Big River

Cold and drizzly this morning.  We met at Big River, where there's always a little wind coming out of the canyon.  We have John to thank for all of today's photos.  They show pretty well what the morning looked like.  Only the Harbor Seals could enjoy the weather.

Thanks Fran, for bringing family; daughter Liz, son Steve and daughter in law, Lynn.  Our condolences to all, upon the passing of husband and father, Roger.  Others present:  Gay, Mark, Chandra, Shari, Peter, Deb, Sam, Charlene, Ron, Bob, Toni, Joe, John, Nancy and Tom (19).

Fourteen of us enjoyed a great Champagne breakfast at the Little River Inn after our run/walk.

WARD AVENUE

On the way to Ward Avenue this morning, John caught a beautiful sunrise.  Thanks, John, for this and all of today's photos.

I think it was 45 degrees this morning, not too bad.  It was nice to not have rain, though we finished just in time to avoid it!  The ocean was beautiful today, great waves!  It was interesting to see Lake Cleone, flooded over the parking lot and over Mill Creek Drive.  There's no getting to Laguna Point for now.  I'm not sure how long it will take to remedy the situation.
