The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

POMO BLUFFS - NOYO BAY

It was a very grey, overcast morning, with a little drizzle and southerly wind mixed in.  Once we got up to the Noyo Bridge and were able to change directions, it seemed so much nicer, then having the wind at our backs.

We had a good sized group today, including 1st timer, Jeff, Michele's husband.  Thanks, Michelle, and I think Henry, for bringing him along.  Also present this morning:  Nancy B., Rick, Susan, Bruce, Fran, Neil, Charlene, Ron, Bob, Peter, John, Nancy and Tom (16).

I was gone a couple of weeks ago, when the group met at Big River.  I didn't hear of any complaints, so I'll assume that things there were okay (no mosquitoes).    We'll go there again next week and the weather is supposed to be nice.  I don't know the life cycle of mosquitoes but with the weather beginning to warm, we will probably have to give up Big River soon, until the weather again turns cool.

WARD AVENUE

This is the Fort Bragg Whale Festival Weekend.  There was a little rain and drizzle yesterday, today is just cloudy.  I hope the weather didn't hamper any of the festivities.  It's been perfect, both yesterday and today, for running and walking.   John captured photos showing the weather, the season and our proximity to waters.

before being cloudy, it was foggy.  J. Loomis photo

Congratulations to Nancy, Jan and Bob, all 1st Place in their divisions at yesterday's Whale Run.  They each had really excellent times, even beating those much younger!   Nancy B. also did great, 2nd Place in her division.  Tom got a 3rd Place and John ran really well, earning 4th Place in a very competitive age group.

Sunday March 12, 2017

We had a lovely group today. I counted fourteen today. The weather was very accommodating and by the time we had turned around the sun was shining and we were able to take off some of our clothing. We had one four-footed runner/walker also thanks to Tom T.

Early morning photo of Big River looking out toward the Highway One Bridge on a rainy day.

I have been hiking a lot around the coast and taking photos of the fallen trees, broken bridges in Van Damme, Russian Gulch and Jug Handle. But I hadn't hiked Big River so I didn't have any photos to share today.

Can't see the seals, but they were right near the tip of

the spit in the estuary of this photo.

All  photos are from John Loomis whose photos had been posted on other days. So we have a nice selection for this week's posting.

PUDDING CREEK TRESTLE

J. Loomis photo, Pudding Creek Beach and Headlands

Well, that was an interesting run/walk.  A little brisk, starting out into the 43 degree wind, but at least it wasn't raining, at that moment.   With us this morning were:  Toni, Joe, Nancy T., Roger, Nancy B., Rick, John, Nancy and Tom (9).  With the day's forecast such as it was, no surprise that only 9 of us showed up.

Going north at the start, and with the stiff wind at on our left sides, we were hoping that maybe coming back, it would feel a little better.  That didn't happen.  Instead, the sky began to darken over the ocean, the wind really started to pick up, and then the hail and blowing sand began!  It was a real umbrella turner, ask Rick.  We covered our exposed skin as best we could and hoped that Nancy wouldn't get blown off the Pudding Creek trestle.
