The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

We hiked around the south shore of the Noyo yesterday, a very pleasant Sunday. There were places along the road that looked like relatively recent rock.mud slides and of course the water was still gushing from the storm drain in the road at the bottom of the hill. Shari has proposed having us meet at the top of the hill, right at highway 20, the next time we hike here to add a little distance, and a climb on the way back, to what is a very short route. Hiking yesterday were Nancy, Tom, Charlene, Shari, John, Diana, Jeff, Cindy, Kim, Doug, Fran, Beth, Bob, and Joe.

Afterwards eleven of us at at  the Home Style Cafe.

CASPAR LOGGING ROAD

It looked like everybody was trying to get a hike in before the storm hit later on Sunday. Hiking were Charlene, Jean, Shari, Sky, Eric, Joe, John, Nancy, Tom, Diana, Jeff, Fran, and her son Steve. We hiked up and back down CASPAR LOGGING ROAD under overcast but rain-free skies.

Afterward eight of us ate breakfast at the GoodLife Cafe.

Reminder: Sam Banker is having an interment for Nancy Banker and Rick Banker at the Caspar Cemetery at 3:30 PM on February 14. Informal, wear boots - it is muddy. The Cemetery is to the south of route 409 to the west of highway 1.

A decent sized group assembled under cloudy skies. We met at what the plein air painters refer to as "toilet point." Though we started 6 seconds late we all did the 3 mile loop around the MENDOCINO HEADLANDS. Hikers were Shari, Eric, John, Charlene, Sky, Deb, Sam, Nancy, Tom, Mark, Fran, Jean, and Joe and, running, Bob.

Afterwards nine of us went to the St Anthony's pancake breakfast.

A brief announcement: Sam Banker is having a memorial for Nancy Banker at the Caspar Cemetery at 3:30 PM on February 14.The Cemetery is to the south of route 409 to the west of highway 1.

A small cadre of hearty souls braved the blustery winds and moderate rain and walked south from POMO BLUFFS. At the start a couple of umbrellas were briefly at risk of collapse and were returned to their respective cars. We decide to head south, being afraid of being blown over the railings of the Noyo Bridge. Due to conditions we returned about 20 minutes early but we did have a chance to review a large landslide on the south bank of the Noyo before heading back to the vehicles. Hiking were Shari, Joe, Deb, Sam, Nancy, Tom and Cheryl and Scott.

Afterwards 7 of us headed up north to eat breakfast at Denny's, always a bargain.

Since John did not walk with us I anticipated no photos, but he did email me some anyway, plus a photo from Sam, not part of the morning, but a local place I did not know existed.

The beautiful weather at WARD AVENUE brought out a large group of hikers: Fran; Jean; Nancy; Tom; Diana; Jeff; Eric; Sam; Sky; Cindy; Toni; Joe; Sky; Beth; Bob; and John. We walked south along the old haul road as we usually do. At the outlet of Lake Cleone there had been a major washout and heavy equipment was there to rebuild the road out to Laguna Point. Large piles of bounders were stacked to provide a foundation for the road repair. Most of the road was gone, but it was easy to walk around the washout. Unfortunately the road further ahead, just past the underpass was fenced off and a park ranger was there telling us to proceed no further. But it was almost time to turn around anyway, so we all had a good walk.
