The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

COASTAL TRAIL - SOUTH

It was a beautiful morning!  When we started, it was 46, sunny and calm.  The ocean was a beautiful blue with very white water around the rocks.  Spring time is definitely here, everything is very green and covered with wildflowers.

Thanks John, for all of today's photos.  On his way to our run this morning, he observed these two Fog Dodgers.

Present today:  Fran, Nancy T., Deb, Sam, Joe, John, Keith, Greg, Bob, Nancy and Tom (11).

The headlands around Mendocino are especially good for wildflowers.  I think you'll enjoy next Sunday's run/walk.

Next Sunday, May 5th, a few of us will cut our run short and head off to Boonville for The Boontling Classic's 10:00 A.M. start.  It is a fun 5K race or walk that benefits the local elementary school and you would enjoy it, I'm sure.  Think about it.  There's usually a very nice  raffle prize for almost everyone attending.

Sunday, May 5th, Mendocino/Heeser Drive
Sunday, May 12th, Coastal Trail - North

NEXT SUNDAY, MAY 5TH @ 8:00 A.M.:  GROUP RUN AND WALK, MENDOCINO HEADLANDS (beginning at the Heeser Dr. restroom).

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN @ 7:00 A.M.: BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD ON TUESDAY AND HEESER DRIVE/MENDOCINO ON THURSDAY.

WARD AVENUE

Easter Sunday, J. Loomis photo
Well, that didn't work out.  We finally had a good low tide at our starting time and I thought that everyone might enjoy a walk or run on the beach.  It had been quite a long time since we had done so.  It was so  windy yesterday though, and this morning seemed to getting to be the same, we all chose to go south, sticking to the Haul Road and going with the wind.  By the time we turned around at the half way point, we were warmed up enough, or acclimated, the wind wasn't a problem as we headed into it.

Besides being a little windy, it was 50+ degrees, sunny and a very pretty morning.  The ocean had pretty waves and many white caps from the wind.

Thanks Peter, for bringing your son, Ben, and daughter-in-law, Erin, to walk with us.  Shari was also there, as was:  Nancy T., Cheryl, Neil, Toni, Joe, Lisa, Deb, Sam, Charlene, Ron, John, Nancy and Tom (17).

Eleven of us enjoyed breakfast at David's today, where all of the waitresses wore bunny ears and cotton tails.  Happy Easter!

CASPAR LOGGING ROAD

What a surprise this morning, mosquitoes!  Though they were only a problem around our start/finish point, we had never experienced mosquitoes on the Caspar Logging Road before.  I was hoping to get in another one or two run/walks at Big River this spring but I see now, that it's already too late.  Must be the many rainy days we've had these past couple of months?

Thanks John L.,  for all of today's photos.  The photo above reminds me of why boaters place a zinc plate near their propellers.  Notice the lack of corrosion beneath the zinc (?) bracket holding Fern Creek DR.

And, there were horses on Fern Creek Drive.  This "Juggling Clown" also came from John.  I'm pretty sure that he made it.

Present today:  Gay, Mark, Lisa, Deb, Sam, Charlene, Ron, Cheryl N., Neil, Nancy B., Rick (Happy Birthday!), Toni, Joe, Shari, Peter, Bob, John, Nancy and Tom (19).

John found the stained glass window on Jefferson Way.  He's always got his eyes looking for a photo.  Thanks again, John.

I picked Ward Avenue for next Sunday's run/walk because there is a real good low ( -0.8 @ 7:30) tide.  If you like looking for sand dollars and other interesting things, this would be your chance.

Fantastic morning on coastal trail-north

Today we ran and walked on the Glass Beach Trail. The beach, diminishing in glass, soon to be called the glass sandbox.

It was a balmy 57 degrees with a gentle breeze from the south, perhaps ushering in the next smattering of rain. The ocean was churning ferociously in a display of power and beauty. The clean fresh air was a confirmation of what many already know that the Mendocino coast is home to some of the purest air in the country.

Along the trail were what at first appeared to be droppings from miniature dogs. Later to be correctly identified as goose poop by bird scatology expert Ron L.

The outing was well attended, present were: Fran, Joe, Sam, Deb, Rick, Nancy, Ron, Charlene, Nancy t., Shari, Peter, Cindy, Jim, Sarah & Kiki. Michael, John, and Bob. Hope I included all that were there and spelled names correctly.

John loomis photos always enhance the blog and make it much more interesting to view. Thank you John (Notice in the train image, the locomotive has jumped the track)
