The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

Van Damme
NEXT SUNDAY, DATE @ 8:00 A.M.: Sunday, May 27th
It was a beautiful walk today, and since no runners showed up, John Loomis walked with a small group. Of course the trail is spectacular, and the first bridge was apparently knocked out by the river, and a metal bridge is in place.
The trail is fairly nice and wide since lots of water issues came with the winter rains.
He took pictures and they are below so you can see them.John went to Salt Point the same day.
John provided us some photos for Van Damme.

And all of us have our thoughts and prayers for Roger and Nancy. Several of us have heard from both Roger & Nancy and if I would have gotten approval to post his photo while in the hospital I would have added that one as well. But I'll let him do that when he gets back.

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, GROUP RUN @ 7:00 A.M.: BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD.

RUSSIAN GULCH

We hadn't been at Russian Gulch for quite awhile.  The trail had issues, including fallen trees, poison oak and mud.  This return today, was to see if conditions have changed.  It was 52 degrees and overcast and along the headlands, a bit breezy.  Amazingly, the Fern Canyon Trail looked exactly as it did a year or so ago, when we last ran it.  It's passable but in very poor condition.

Kind of a last minute thing here, posting the next seven photos.  I had started this post early, so that I could save a little time this morning, had some other things to do.  Anyway, Zelda sent all these great photos from this morning and so I'm just sticking them in here.  Thank you Zelda!  The pictures show how beautiful it is here on the coast.

The above photo from John was taken on a brighter day but I like it a lot.

I'm not sure where John shot some of these photos or what they really are.  They are interesting, John.

MENDOCINO HEADLANDS AND TOWNSHIP

Thank you Nancy B. and Rick, for bringing guests, Cindy and Jerry.  And thanks to John, for today's photos.  This weekend was the Annual Rhododendren Show at the Botanical Gardens.  This one is very pretty but not from the show.  Probably from John's yard.

Rhododendren
Others present today:  Nancy T., Roger, Fran, Jan, Catherine, John, Bob, Joe, Toni, Nancy and Tom (15).

It was a very beautiful morning, overcast and 53, calm with seemingly endless visibility.  We noticed many more than normal seabirds on the rocks and islands around Heeser Dr.   I wish that Ron had been with us this morning, he could have enlightened us as to what they were.

Russian Gulch Headlands and Caspar Lighthouse

Four of us runners cut the run short and headed to Boonville for the Boontling Classic 5K.  Congratulations to Nancy for a 1st place and to the others for doing really well, two thirds and a fourth.

Next Sunday will be Mother's Day, a good day for a nice morning walk or run.  Caspar Logging Road  is quiet and the rhododendrens should be pretty.  Hope to see you there.
