The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

CASPAR LOGGING ROADS

We were on the Caspar Logging Road this Spring morning.  It felt a little more winter-like at 38 degrees but was beginning to warm a bit by the time we finished.   John was out early again and took a few local photos for our blog.  This goose and duck seem happy with the morning.

Present today:  Cheryl N., Neil, Mark, Nancy B., Charlene, Ron, Joe, Toni, Bob, John, Nancy and Tom (12).

Not sure about the photo above.  I think it must be a painting, or a photo taken from very, very far away with a telescopic lens.  Long ago, I used a spotting scope a lot, and things in the distance would sometimes look like this.  Thanks John.

And John has reminded me that next Sunday is Easter.  We will run and walk at Big River.

Here's one for next week.  J. Loomis photo
Oh, I've got to get one more photo in here.  Bob did really well at last week's Whale Run 5K and Nancy got this photo of him as he went by.  Good job, Bob!

POMO BLUFFS, NOYO BAY AND SOUTH COASTAL TRAIL

It was 38 degrees but felt a lot colder, as we met this morning on Todd's Point.  Now it has a new name, Pomo Bluffs Park, which sounds good.  John was seen, out looking for photo opportunities just as we arrived.  This first photo was of the large house just south of our starting point.

John wanted a "wee bit of green" for St. Patrick's Day and gave me this photo, though I have no idea what it is, or is about to become?

Springtime means Rhododendrons along the coast

Here's a tentative schedule of upcoming run/hikes.  I do this to avoid repeating too often and to help guest bloggers choose a venue.

Thanks John, for all of today's photos.  John, Jan, and Nancy B. also did yesterday's Whale Run 5K, and did very well.  Congratulations!

NOYO HEADLANDS PARK - NORTH

It was a pleasant 45 degrees today.  The fog was just retreating when we started, but the sun was out when we finished, requiring the removal of some jackets.

Time Change
Today there were 16 of us enjoying such a beautiful morning - Lucinda, Geri (breakfast only), Toni (breakfast only), Cheryl, Neil, Peter, Shari, Roger, Nancy T., Nancy B. Rick, Ron, John, Fran, Gay & Mark.

John took the clock photo this morning to remind us there was a time change, and everyone had remembered!

Fog in town this morning
At the end of the trail, a quick inspection revealed the connecting section of the trail is complete, other than finishing the fencing.  We should be able to walk it within the next month.
Pudding trestle and the retreating fog bank

Some of us walked the headlands and saw that the wildflowers are beginning to come out.  The headlands between Glass Beach and Pudding Creek usually have a beautiful display of wild flowers, and it'll probably be well worth a visit in a week or so.

RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK

It had been a long time since we've run or  hiked at Russian Gulch State Park, so we  decided to check it out.  Nothing has changed, the beauty of the headlands and the ocean, the mud, nettles and poison oak of the Fern Canyon Trail or the coldness of a deep coastal canyon.  This morning, it was 40 degrees and clear but with 95 % humidity, it felt colder.  Maybe I'm just getting older!  It was nice to be out.

It will be awhile before we resume doing our mid-week runs at Russian Gulch.  Present today:  Catherine, David, Gay, Mark, Fran, Nancy T., Roger, Jennifer, Charlene, Ron, Joel, Jan, John, Barbara, Toni, Nancy and Tom (17).

We were going to visit Hare Creek, JSF Road 450, on the 18th but with quite a few "wet" days in the near future, we will save that one.  The clay soil there gets pretty slippery and gummy.
