The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

NAVARRO RIDGE ROAD

This morning, we ran and walked on Navarro Ridge Road.  We used this venue last on May 24, 2015.  We don't do it very often because it's further than many want to drive early on a Sunday morning.  It was suggested today, that perhaps three times a year would be about right.  John said that the road kind of has seasons and the views are always different.  From the photos that John took, both today and a couple very recent, you can see why we don't want to forget about this venue, it is beautiful!

John took these photos from the Navarro Ridge area.  Thanks, John!

It was 49 degrees with overcast/foggy skies this morning.  As our hour progressed, a drizzle became heavier and heavier, so most of us were pretty wet by the time we finished.

I couldn't stay for the Grange Breakfast but most did.  It's another reason that this is a good venue.  I hope that it was enjoyed by all.

This week, it's forecasted to get rainy near the weekend.  I hope that our parking area at Russian Gulch doesn't get too muddy.  The trail in Fern Canyon is already a mess but for the walkers, there are lots of different loops and trails that make this one a very nice walk!

Noyo Headlands Park- North

J. Loomis photo

This morning, we met near Glass Beach and ran and walked the trail at Noyo Headlands Park.   We did the north section, as the two halves are not joined yet and it will be awhile before they are.  When the trails connect in the future, it's going to be a great trail.  Now, it's a nice trail.

Early and cold arrivals

It was brisk when we met, 38 degrees with a steady breeze and mostly sunny skies.  John caught a picture of some kind of weird cloud formations.

WARD AVENUE

Valentine's Day, Lake Cleone, J. Loomis photo

Thank you John, for today's photos.  And thanks for the run.  On some mornings, the benefits of walking or running with a group are more apparent.  This morning, the beach seemed longer and straighter, the sand softer and the morning greyer.  On my own, I may not have kept going but with a group, you kind of just keep going.  It was 48 degrees and calm, skies were mostly overcast with high clouds and the surf was large with several breaks.

BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD

Mendocino Bay this week, J. Loomis photo
Thanks to John, for this morning's photos.  Big surf during the past week was really amazing and even though it's just early February, things are beginning to look like Spring.

We had a beautiful morning at Big River, for this morning's run and walk.  The tide was very high, the winds were calm and skies completely blue and clear.
