The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

VAN DAMME STATE PARK'S FERN CANYON

Van Damme State Park, J. Loomis photo
It was another perfect morning for running and walking.  We met at Van Damme, 48 degrees, sunny and calm.  It was like old times, more runners than walkers!  Don't get me wrong, nothing at all wrong with walking.  For many, walking is even better for you than running, but we did start as a running group.

Thanks Melissa and Katie,  for inviting a couple more new runners, Chandra and Julie.  I hope we have more time to talk soon, I was kind of late this morning and didn't really spend much time talking.  Also, welcome back Ron!!

Others present today, hope I get everyone, Charlene, Cindy, Jackie, Fran, Lisa, Tabi, Linnaea, Zavier, Cheryl, Nancy T., Roger, Geri, John, Cyd, Rod, Joe, Nancy and Tom (23).

Three days ago, last Thursday, the Fern Canyon Trail, was fairly dry and most of the mud holes were gone.  After a little rain on Friday, the trail was a mess this morning!  Tabi deserves an award, for running with the baby jogger and two small ones!!  Also, Cyd deserves an award, for completing the Zion 100!  Congratulations Cyd!

Next week, should be a good turnout.  Big River normally has the largest attendance.   I look forward to seeing all of you.

NEXT SUNDAY, May 3rd @ 8:00 A.M.:  BIG RIVER LOGGING ROAD, see "Our Routes" above.  A few of us may bail out of this one early, after about 20 minutes, in order to make it to the Boontling Classic 5K, a great little race/walk, if you have never been to it.  It starts at 10:00.

EVERY TUESDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK, beginning on Point Cabrillo Drive, 1/10 of a mile north of its south end.

EVERY THURSDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: VAN DAMME STATE PARK, beginning at the beach.

WARD AVENUE

It was another perfect morning for running and walking.   We met at Ward Ave., giving us the option of either going north along the beach or south along the Haul Road.  It was 49 degrees, calm and mostly sunny, right on the edge of the coastal fog.

This is not Ward Avenue.  If you look closely, you'll see that it's Nancy, having her morning coffee in Maui.  I guess that she did not miss Ward Avenue too much.

Thank you Jackie, for bringing a new person, Cindy.  I hope she enjoyed it enough to keep coming back.   Welcome to the Fog Dodgers, Cindy!

We haven't been to Ten Mile River since last August, so you'll see it scheduled below.  It's only 5 minutes further than where we met today, so don't stay home thinking it's too far away.  It is a great road for walking, running and biking.

Sun. May 3, Big River (cut it short, use it as a warm up, and head to Boonville Classic 10:00 )
Sun. May 10, Caspar (Mother's Day, great start to the day, Mom!)

Big River and Pudding Creek

All of the "bloggers" were busy the past couple of weeks but I trust that some of you were here and hopefully took advantage of the pre-published schedule and had a good run or walk.  John Loomis was nice enough to send me the photos below so at least the blog would look nice, even if I had nothing to say.

Next Sunday, we'll start at Ward Avenue in Cleone.  There's a -0.9 low tide just before our start time so for those wanting to beach comb or run on the flat and damp sand, it should be very nice.  Walking or running to the south and around the Laguna Point area is very pretty.  Whichever way you choose, it's a good place to start.

Cyd completed the Zion 100 Mile Race, so we're anxious to hear the details of that.  Congratulations!
