The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

Big River Logging Road

"Start slowly, then taper off."  Walt Stack, racing advice

This morning, we met at Big River.  It was overcast and a "warm" 61 degrees.   The overnight rain made the air feel heavy and humid.

We had the pleasure of meeting another new person, Bob G.   Also present this morning:  Cheryl, Joel,  Melissa, Nichole, Ginny, Terry, Philip, John, Shari, Peter, Charlene,  Chuck, Geri, Nancy and Tom (16) and I think I'm missing someone here???

Thank you, John, for this morning's pictures.  John's photos are getting better all the time!

For the Thursday runners, we are moving back to Van Damme State Park and hoping that the yellow jackets have gone dormant or whatever they do.

NEXT SUNDAY, DATE OCT. 6TH @ 8:00 A.M.:  RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK, see "Our Routes" above.

EVERY TUESDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK, beginning on Point Cabrillo Drive, 1/10 of a mile north of its south end.

EVERY THURSDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: VAN DAMME STATE PARK, beginning at the beach.

Caspar Logging Roads

"The difference between a jogger and a runner is an entry blank."  Dr. George Sheehan

I'm kind of sorry that summer is officially over today.  We've had so many great days this summer.  Today was another one of them, 50 degrees, sunny and calm.  We were at Caspar Creek Logging Roads and it was a beautiful morning.  Yesterday's rain had washed any dust from the ferns and forest and made the roads just perfect for walking and running.

Thanks to John, for sending the photos below, all taken around Caspar.   All of the photos are "clickable".

Present this morning:  Barbara, back for her second or third visit,  Geri, Cheryl, Neil, Shari, Peter, Gay, Mark, Nancy T., Roger, Nancy B., Rick, Joel, John, Charlene, Ron, Craig, Greg, Toni, Joe, Tom T., Nancy and Tom (23).

MacKerricher Haul Road

"There is no doubt that 'Sport For All' is a 20th-century movement of real significance.  Other mass movements have oppressed where they intended to liberate.  This movement liberates because it has an essentially individual basis.  The choice of speed, route, distance or company is entirely yours."  __
                                                           Sir Roger Bannister

Probably some of our group went to the County Fair today.  They got to see apples, sheep and much, much more.  I know of at least two Fog Dodgers that were entering things and I wish the best to them.

John L. took  photos today of what those at the fair saw and also those of us at the run/walk got to see.

It was a spectacular morning!  60 degrees and calm, mostly sunny and crystal clear skies.  The ocean was calm and a deep blue with a scattering of salmon trollers in close to shore.  Mornings don't get much prettier!

Ten Mile River

"The average American takes twenty years to get out of condition and he wants to get back in twenty days------ and you just can't do it."  Ken Cooper, M.D.

What a pretty morning!  Thanks Fran, for bringing yet another guest, Barbara.  Others present were:  Rick B., Nancy B., Neil, Rick C., Ginny, Terry, Melissa, Nichole, John, Nancy T., Roger, Toni, Joe and Tom (16).

It was 52 degrees at our start time and warmed to 60 by the time we finished.  There weren't as many berries as in past years but there were enough for those that wanted them.

Wonder how a spider can make such a perfect web, without the benefit of standing back and looking at it?  Thanks John, for all the photos.

Next week, we'll go to MacKerricher State Park and hope that this fantastic weather continues.

Eight of us had a very good breakfast at David's today.  It was a really nice morning for all.

NEXT SUNDAY, SEPT. 15TH @ 8:00 A.M.:  MACKERRICHER STATE PARK HAUL ROAD, see "Our Routes" above.

EVERY TUESDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK, beginning on Point Cabrillo Drive, 1/10 of a mile north of its south end.

EVERY THURSDAY @ 7:00 A.M.:  BIG RIVER (not doing Van Damme for awhile due to angry yellow jackets!)

Big River Logging Road

"In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack or last.  You can say, 'I have finished.'  There is a lot of satisfaction in that."  Fred Lebow

Big River,  9/01/13 J. Loomis

What a beautiful morning!  Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend.  At Big River this morning, it was 52, clear and there was just a slight breeze, enough to keep most, but not all of the mosquitoes away.

Thanks to Bob H., for joining with us this morning.  Also present were:  Bob, Charlene, Ron, Rod, Cheryl N., Neil,  Bob J., Nancy B., Fran, Orah, Steve, Tom T., Geri, Ginny, Terry, John, Nancy and Tom (19).

Russian Gulch by J. Loomis

It has been suggested, that it is time for another Ten Mile River run/walk.  At this time each year, actually a couple of weeks earlier, Ten Mile River Logging Road is one of the best places for berry picking.  So, next week, if you wish to take home some blackberries, bring along a plastic bag or container of some sort.
