The Fog Dodgers invite all residents and visitors of the Mendocino Coast to join us on our weekly group runs and walks. We have runners and walkers of all abilities (and even some bikers) and we have only one "rule" - we start at exactly 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Exercise at your own pace (1/2 hour out, 1/2 hour back) and experience the fresh Mendocino coastal air.

Fog Dodgers provides a fun, safe way to explore some of our local trails and back roads and to meet new friends. You can find out where we're going to be by reading the bottom of last week's post, then clicking on the "Our Routes" tab above. We average 15-20 persons each Sunday and typically half will go to breakfast together afterwards at a nearby restaurant.

TEN MILE RIVER LOGGING ROAD

It started raining yesterday afternoon and rained pretty good most of the night. The worms really had a bad time with it and were plentiful on the Ten Mile River Logging Road this morning. Trying to avoid those worms were: Johnny, Orah, Steve, John, Melissa, Gay, Mark, Maddelyn, Scott, Toni, Randy, Nancy B., Nancy and Tom (14).

It was a brisk 45 degrees at the start, under blue skies, though most of our walk/run seemed to be in the shade. Those that made it saw a beautiful morning.

Ten of us went to The Laurel Deli at The Depot for breakfast and were joined by Brad (15). Breakfast was good.

Photos 1 and 3 by J. Loomis, photo #2 by S. Greenwood. I need help from Brad, so that I can put these photos on the page where I want them and not where "blogger" wants them. I keep cutting and pasting but blogger.com seems to have it's mind made up as to where they'll go. They are pretty photos though and we thank John and Steve. Remember everybody, you can click on any photo and see a nicer and larger version of it.

NEXT SUNDAY, 2/6/11 @ 8:00 A.M.: VAN DAMME STATE PARK, (see "Our Routes" above)

EVERY TUESDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK, beginning on Point Cabrillo Drive, 1/10 of a mile north of it's south end.

EVERY THURSDAY @ 7:00 A.M.: VAN DAMME STATE PARK, beginning at the beach.

NAVARRO RIDGE ROAD & WHITESBORO GRANGE

We were on Navarro Ridge this morning. Nancy and Tom brought two friends from out of town, Mary Sue and Irene. Also present were: Maribeth, Rod, Geri, Mark, Maddelyn, Scott, Kim, Ron, John, Nancy T., Roger, Deb, and Sam (17).

A brisk, 45 degree wind made the first quarter mile a little uncomfortable. About the time we got to Mr. Emu, the wind died down and it was another perfect morning for running, walking and biking.

J. Loomis

Traffic was light on the ridge for most of the run/walk/bike, with Mark only counting 3 vehicles. That was, until "rush hour" or something must have happened. In the last 15 minutes the count jumped from 3, all the way to 9! Thanks, Mark.

Thirteen of us stuck around to enjoy breakfast at the Whitesboro Grange.

NEXT SUNDAY, 1/30/11 @ 8:00 A.M.: TEN MILE RIVER LOGGING ROAD (see "Our Routes" above)

CASPAR LOGGING ROAD

Thank you, John, for a picture taken this morning on The Caspar Logging Road.

Present were: Cindy, Jim, Geri, Jan, Marc, Gay, Mark, Randy, Bob, John, Rod, Nancy T., Roger, Charlene, Ron, Johnny, Nancy and Tom.

Afterwards, we joined Brad at The North Coast Brewing Co. for a very nice breakfast (19).

A&W LOGGING ROAD/ NOYO RIVER

This morning, we ran, walked and biked the A&W Logging Road. It was a beautiful, wintry morning. Gathering at the Police Department, it was a brisk 38 degrees under clear skies. Going down the hill into the Noyo River canyon, it was considerably colder with ice on the puddles. Frost covered everything and the river was a pretty "milky" green.

Present today: John, Bob, Charlene, Ron, Nancy T., Roger, Toni, Randy, Nancy B., Rick, Gay, Mark, Maddelyn, Scott, Orah, Steve, Nancy and Tom (18).

Afterwards, 12 of us enjoyed talk and breakfast at David's Restaurant where we saw Johnny and Brad (notice, Johnny, that the two of you haven't been counted :-)

NEXT SUNDAY, 1/16/11 @ 8:00 A.M.: Caspar Logging Road (see "Our Routes" above)

Happy New Year!!!

I was all ready to go the way of Tom last week and also concede that not every one of our Sunday morning runs/walks is pretty. Not today! I was even contemplating how to mention mosquitoes in today's report, but that was not to be, either. It was 46F, with just a slight sprinkle for the first half mile. I think we were all pleasantly surprised.

But hats off to all you die-hards who were driving drearily down to Big River this morning in the pouring rain -- and were rewarded handsomely with a gorgeous double rainbow!!!

Oh well, the Nancys - Nancy B, Nancy R, Nancy T, and the rest of us, Cindy, Jim, Rick, Fran, Toni, Randy, Marc, John, Susie, Rod, Bob, Kim, Roger and I (17) just had to enjoy the Ron Jahelka Trail along side a swollen, muddy Big River.

Afterward, 11 of us had breakfast with Brad (and Tom!) at David's, under new ownership as of this year. Congratulations, Kira!

NEXT SUNDAY, January 9, 2011 @ 8 AM: Noyo River Haul Road (A&W)... could be muddy. See "Our Routes" above.

EVERY TUESDAY @ 7:15 AM (for the rest of January):
RUSSIAN GULCH STATE PARK, beginning on Point Cabrillo Drive, 1/10 of a mile north of its south end.

EVERY THURSDAY @ 7:15 AM (for the rest of January):
VAN DAMME STATE PARK, beginning at the beach.

p.s. Sorry I'm late getting this out, but it's been really nice out doors today and you should have been out there too....
